Green Product – Cradle to Cradle™ Certified

Hycrete products are water-based and Cradle to Cradle™ certified. Find out more about Cradle to Cradle™.

LEED Contributions

Hycrete System W can deliver a stand-alone LEED credit:

Innovation in Design (ID Credit 1)—Membrane-Free Waterproofing
Use of Hycrete products for membrane-free waterproofing has been accepted for a full point. See the case study for Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

Hycrete products can contribute towards obtaining LEED points, including:

Materials and Resources (MR Credit 4.1/4.2)—Recycled Content
The value of recycled materials, 50% of pre- and 100% of post-consumer, counts towards this credit. Hycrete admixtures are 80% composed of pre-consumer recycled materials, by weight.

Materials and Resources (MR Credit 5.1/5.2)—Regional Materials
The value of materials extracted and manufactured within 500 miles of the project site count towards this credit. Hycrete admixtures are manufactured in Newark, NJ; 80% of the materials are extracted there.

Innovation in Design (ID Credit 1)—Greater Than 2.5% of Building Materials Certified Cradle to Cradle
Use of Cradle To Cradle™ certified products that constitute at least 2.5% of the material cost of a project has been established as a successful application for an Innovation Credit.  Hycrete products are certified Silver under the Cradle to Cradle™ program (50% credit).

Reduce Waste on Site

Hycrete admixtures are batched in at the ready mix plant, eliminating packaging and scrap membrane materials on the jobsite. Also, because of its integral nature, it is easily recycled as part of the concrete after demolition.

Use Sustainable Materials

Hycrete products can be used with supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash and slag. These materials are greener than cement and may be used as an alternative material, replacing some cement in a concrete mix, to reduce the carbon footprint of the building.

Recycling Concrete with Hycrete Admixtures

Concrete substantially consists of imminently sustainable materials – sand, rock, and water.  However, waterproofing membranes often make recycling concrete impractical or impossible. Chlorides and contamination from polluted soils may leach into concrete and prohibit recyclability. Concrete with Hycrete admixtures can be easily crushed and has reduced chloride and contamination ingress.

Hycrete’s admixtures are certifed Cradle to Cradle™ Silver, meaning they are safe for human and ecological systems at all phases of their lifecycles. Also, Hycrete’s green concrete products have virtually zero VOCs and are produced with recycled water content and renewable energy sources.

Build to Last

The most sustainable structure is the one you don’t have to rebuild. Make your current project last longer. Not only does Hycrete technology reduce water absorption, it even protects the steel reinforcement. Hycrete admixtures chemically bond to the reinforcement surface to form a protective layer that drastically reduces corrosion by water and dissolved salts, extending your building’s useful life and reducing replacement costs. Once reacted with the concrete mix, Hycrete admixtures will remain an integral part of the concrete matrix for the life of the structure. The molecule doesn’t break down. It won’t leach out. There is no re-application. This is green concrete – concrete that doesn’t have to be torn down and replaced frequently.

Hycrete, Inc is a Leader in Clean Tech

Hycrete Inc.’s CEO, David Rosenberg, was one of eight clean tech leaders invited to meet with President Obama to discuss sustainability.

“And when you hear the innovation that’s taking place… [including] new concrete materials that last longer and are waterproofed from the inside out, and that can mean that bridges and roads and buildings can last 20 or 30 years longer than using conventional concrete… That gets you excited.” President Barack Obama, July 3, 2009

Hycrete, Inc. was named by Time Magazine as one of four companies leading the fight to win the war on global warming.

Hycrete, Inc. was named one of the leading 100 technology pioneers by the World Economic Forum in 2008.
