Sustainable Designs

An area commonly overlooked in the construction of green buildings is concrete waterproofing. Conventional waterproofing methods typically involve permanently attaching a protective membrane/coating to the concrete. However, these systems are often petroleum-based and applied using high VOC adhesives. Concrete should be a sustainable material-sand, rock, water, and cement. Because of high toxicity materials that are added to the concrete or petroleum-based membranes that are permanently attached, concrete may lose its sustainable characteristics. Hycrete Admixtures provide integral protection and membrane-free construction which allow concrete to remain a sustainable building material.

A well-known mantra of sustainability is doing more with less. By eliminating membranes, Hycrete Admixtures obviate a full step of construction (waterproofing contractor) - saving significant time and materials and hence, doing more with less.

Using Hycrete Admixtures can be an important component of any comprehensive green building strategy and may also help to qualify for LEED points. In addition, Hycrete Admixtures are Cradle-to-Cradle certified by MBDC (www.mbdc.com). The user has the comfort of knowing that we are replacing a petroleum-based system with an environmentally intelligent solution.
