Green Construction

Conventional concrete is hydrophilic - water and dissolved salts are readily transferred through the capillary and micro-crack pathways within concrete's hardened matrix. Consequently, billions of dollars and millions of man-hours are spent to prevent and repair water and corrosion damage. Installation of exterior wraps, coatings, and membranes around the concrete wall, deck, and roof range from $3 to $25 per square foot and can be time intensive and subject to ideal weather conditions. Delays are common, leaks are difficult to locate, and repairs are problematic. Furthermore, these membranes are predominately petroleum based and contain high VOCs. Because these membranes are permanently attached to the concrete, the concrete itself may be difficult to recycle post demolition. Consequently, millions of tons of membrane-related waste are sent to landfill each year.

At Hycrete, Inc. we make concrete hydrophobic/waterproof under BSI 1881-122 through use of Cradle to Cradle environmentally intelligent solutions. Hycrete, Inc. manufactures and supplies advanced materials that integrally transform concrete into a waterproof construction material and obviates the need for membrane-based construction. Our admixture solutions repel water and dissolved salts by shutting down the capillary/micro-crack absorption mechanism and provide significant time, money, and resource savings. Applications include commercial subgrade foundation walls and slabs, elevated decks for parking structures, plazas and green-roof systems, transportation infrastructure, and marine facilities.
