Waterproofing Shotcrete Applications
Shotcrete waterproofing is often challenging. Tough membranes have to be used to minimize damage from the pressure of pneumatically projected concrete, and they have to be held in place with strong systems. These solutions are not always successful. Along with poor consolidation often found in shotcrete, there are often numerous penetrations and voids which can lead to leaks and corrosion. With Hycrete System W, there is no need for a separate membrane. The waterproofing is inside the concrete. With guidance on mix design and quality assurance on site, shotcrete consolidation is improved. The result is waterproof shotcrete. This is a great way to value engineer your shotcrete wall*.
Blasted rock, caissons, soldier piles – there are many situations where a lot of surface preparation to uneven surfaces is required before applying waterproofing membranes. In some cases an additional layer of concrete is applied, and in other cases timber or other permanent formwork is used. These are time-consuming and costly. With Hycrete waterproofing solutions, concrete can be poured directly on the clean uneven surface, without need for surface preparation, saving time and money.
Tie-backs, rakers, and other penetrations are notoriously difficult to waterproof. They require special details, which are time-consuming and often leak. With Hycrete waterproofing solutions, waterproofing of penetrations is made simpler.
High Water Table
When you are building in the water table, leaks can be devastating. For select applications, Hycrete System W can provide membrane-free, leak-free waterproofing even below the water table, reducing cost, time, and risks*.
If your project is in brackish or salt water, there is a risk of corrosion. Hycrete products all protect against corrosion in several ways. Hycrete waterproofing admixtures are dual-action corrosion inhibitors, which (a) reduce the permeability of concrete, so water and corrosive salts are less able to penetrate the concrete, and (b) form a protective layer around rebar, so the corrosive agents are less able to attack it. They also help close small cracks. In slightly cracked concrete, they outperform calcium nitrite and high performance concrete in corrosion inhibition. They may be used to replace both the coated rebar and the corrosion inhibitor or permeability reducer.
