Hycrete Benefits
Increased Durability
When water gets into your concrete structure, not only does it cause leaks but it also may allow corrosion and weaken the structure. Hycrete admixtures protect the concrete in a number of ways.
Permeability Reduction
Hycrete admixtures reduce the permeability of concrete, so water and corrosive salts are less able to penetrate the concrete. Supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash and slag reduce the size of capillaries and reduce permeability. Crystalline admixtures require water to be activated, and can actually suck up water. Hycrete admixtures, which can be used in combination with supplementary cementitious materials, considerably reduce the amount of water absorbed into concrete.
Protective Layer around Reinforcing Steel
Hycrete admixtures form a protective layer around rebar, so the corrosive agents are less able to attack it.
Closing Cracks
Hycrete admixtures also help close small cracks, reducing the possibility that water and dissolved salts can reach the rebar and damage it.

Superior Corrosion Inhibition
In slightly cracked concrete, Hycrete admixtures outperform calcium nitrite and high performance concrete in corrosion inhibition. They may be used to replace both the coated rebar and the corrosion inhibitor or permeability reducer. They may also be used in addition to coated rebar and supplementary cementitious materials for extra protection. Concrete durability is increased, giving your structure a longer life cycle.
