Hycrete Applications
Flooring
Benefits:
- Superior protection against moisture damage to flooring
- Avoid unsightly floors – expansion, cupping, peaking, curling, buckling, bubbling, blistering, gapping / seam separation, debonding, delamination, adhesive failure, oozing/bleeding, warping, staining, effluorescence, discoloration, mold growth, mildew, fungi
- Reduced construction time and related cost savings
- No delays from concrete rewetting – no need to wait for concrete to dry out sufficiently to meet moisture testing requirements
- No need to apply separate primer and wait for it to dry
- Avoid delays and call-backs related to flooring damage
- Reduce risk of floor failure
- Owners and specifiers – avoid legal claims and costs related to trip hazards
- Specifiers – avoid the time and inconvenience of flooring issues from moisture damage
- Reduce risk of adhesive bond failure
- Avoid alkaline conditions that can cause adhesive bonds to be destroyed
- Reduce replacement and maintenance
- Extend the life of flooring and reduce replacement frequency
- Sustainable solution
- Reduced replacement requirements
- Contributes to LEED points
- No VOCs
Flooring installations are vulnerable to moisture damage. Water, which may come directly into contact with the flooring or reach it as water vapor, can damage the installation in a number of ways:
- All flooring types using adhesives
- High alkalinity can cause adhesives to fail
- Wooden flooring
- Water and vapor can cause buckling, warping, and cupping, and moisture can cause delamination
- Bamboo and cork
- Water and vapor can cause buckling, cupping, and efflorescence
- Carpet tiles and carpets
- Water can cause stains, mold, and efflorescence
- Vinyl composition tiles (VCT), sheet vinyl, linoleum
- Water and vapor can cause bubbling, blistering, and debonding
- Ceramic, terrazzo, and stone flooring
- Water and vapor can warp underlayments and cause cracking and unevenness
Coatings can be used as a barrier against moisture and vapor, but they have to be applied to completely dry concrete. Concrete rewets easily and takes a long time to dry again. Even if only a small area of concrete is wet, the whole floor installation may be delayed as a result. Vapor retarders do not protect against rewetting either. Crystalline solutions and coatings require the presence of water in order to operate, and may not achieve the promised MVER reduction and inhibit floor bonding if the concrete contains fly ash or slag.
With Hycrete System V, you have the visible protection of a vapor barrier sheet system plus the internal protection of moisture-resistant concrete. You are protected against both vapor and moisture seepage through capillary action. Your floors can be easily applied and will last longer.
