Board of Directors

Hycrete, Inc.’s Board of Directors is comprised of some of the most influential names in construction and cleantech private equity. The Board is focused on expanding the sustainability of concrete through technology innovation while creating value for its shareholders.

Board members

David Rosenberg, Hycrete CEO

David Rosenberg, Founder

David is co-founder of Hycrete, Inc. He built the company with the goal of fixing the biggest problems associated with concrete – the world’s most used construction material. Since then David successfully led Hycrete’s growth through major venture financing, domestic and international expansion, and a broader incorporation of design, integration expertise and service for commercial, infrastructure, and residential construction. David has emerged as a world leader in sustainable construction innovation and is responsible for Hycrete admixture earning the very first Cradle to Cradle™ certification. He has participated in numerous conferences around the US and the world, including a closed panel discussion on innovation and cleantech led by President Obama; moderating a discussion on Sustainability and Design for the World Economic Forum; and participating as a panelist at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen and at the World Competiveness Forum in Riyadh. David is a member of the Young Alumni Association of Columbia Business School. He received his BA from UNC Chapel Hill where he also captained the fencing team, and holds an MBA from Columbia University. David is a consistent guest lecturer at Columbia Business School and the Stern School of Business at NYU. In addition, David competed for US in Fencing for many years and is a three-time US National Fencing Champion.

Richard comes to Hycrete with 35 years of extensive experience in the building envelope industry. Most recently he served as President of invelope, a division of CENTRIA, a leading architectural panel manufacturer. During his tenure there, he and his team created and patented a new and innovative approach to building high performance exterior wall systems. He has also served as Vice President of Business Development. In that role, he was responsible for company wide business activities, primarily focusing on creating new enterprise market and product opportunities. Richard was also instrumental in securing the first-ever Cradle to Cradle certification for an exterior architectural product. Also while at CENTRIA, he served in various areas of the company’s sales and marketing operations. His role as Vice President of International Sales included significant emphasis on the Pacific Rim developing markets. He was also involved in various capacities of sales management, functioning as Regional Sales Manager and Divisional Manager for the company. He earned his MBA from Temple University and a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. Richard has served as a member of the advisory board to Cradle to Cradle and has spoken frequently in construction industry forums regarding various topics relating to innovation and sustainability.

 

Jeffrey B. Hanes , President, Carter-Waters Corporation, Kansas City, MO

Jeffrey B. Hanes is CEO/President and sole owner of the Carter-Waters Corporation, an 83 year old distributor of construction products and equipment. Carter-Waters provides a wide range of products and services to concrete, masonry, waterproofing and site work contractors. Since his purchase of the Kansas City based company in 1984, Carter-Waters has grown to serve the construction industry from nine locations in the Midwest.
Mr. Hanes has been involved in a variety of local charitable and business organizations. He has served as past president of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, past president of the Kansas City Chapter of Young Presidents Organization, and Board Member of the St. Lukes Hospital Foundation. Business organizations include the Heavy Contractors of Kansas City, the Missouri Association of General Contractors, the Builders Association and president of the Association of Construction Distributors International.
Mr. Hanes has also participated as an angel investor in the banking software, retailing, and outsourcing services industries.

Peter Grubstein, Managing Director of NGEN Partners

Peter Grubstein, Managing Director of NGEN Partners

Peter S.H. Grubstein is a founder and a Managing Director of NGEN. Prior to establishing NGEN in 2000, Mr. Grubstein made diverse investments with a number of firms, ranging from venture capital to LBOs and leveraged recapitalizations. Successful exits for Mr. Grubstein include U.S. Labs, AnaServe, Carolina Steel, Premiere Video and Kenfil.
Before becoming an investor, Mr. Grubstein gained operating experience as President of the American Tanning Company, working in both Germany and the U.S. Mr. Grubstein is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Hycrete, Renaissance Lighting and Textronics (Chairman). He is an observer on the Board of Konarka Technologies, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Cleantech Venture Network. A graduate of Yale College, Mr. Grubstein received a B.A. degree in 1977.

David Prend, Managing General Partner of RockPort Capital Partners

David Prend, Managing General Partner of RockPort Capital Partners

David’s alternative energy career began almost three decades ago when he was an engineer at Bechtel specializing in advanced energy technologies. He worked at Amoco in the chemical and upstream oil and gas subsidiaries and in finance. He later joined Shearson Lehman in their Natural Resources Investment Banking Group where he advised companies in the energy, mining and forest products industries. He spent the bulk of his Wall Street career at Salomon Brothers where he was promoted to Managing Director and headed the Global Energy Investment Banking Group until co-founding RockPort. Mr. Prend received a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

David currently serves on the boards of Achates Power, Aspen Aerogels, Aspen Products Group, Hycrete Technologies, Satcon Technology Corporation, and Solyndra. In addition, he serves as director of the National Venture Capital Association, director of the National Advisory Council for the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), chairman of Solar Technology Review Panel for NREL, and trustee of Exeter Hospital (New Hampshire).

Erik Straser, Partner of Mohr Davidow Ventures

Erik Straser, Partner of Mohr Davidow Ventures

With a decade of experience in venture capital, Erik has been a catalyst for Cleantech in Silicon Valley and abroad. He leads MDV’s Cleantech investment team and applies his expertise in areas of solar, biofuels, energy storage, industrial biotech and clean coal.

Prior to MDV Erik worked at Interval Research Corp., a technology incubator funded by Paul Allen, and at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a technical staff member. He also consulted to several seed and early stage venture capital firms.

While pursuing a PhD in engineering at Stanford, Erik led an interdisciplinary project between the electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering departments to develop a next-generation monitoring system for critical facilities. He holds a U.S. patent from his research work.

Erik serves on the advisory council of the Stanford Precourt Institute for Energy Efficiency, as well as on the advisory boards of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP), Stanford’s BASES, NVCA Cleantech Council, and Cleantech Venture Network. He is a winner of the 2006 World Technology Award for Finance, presented by the World Technology Network, in association with the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Dow Chemical, Cisco, TIME magazine, Fortune magazine, Science magazine/AAAS, Red Herring, and CNN.

Erik earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Harvey Mudd College and both doctoral and master’s degrees from the Stanford University School of Engineering.

Robert Chefitz, NJTC Venture Fund, Roseland, NJ

Robert is a 27 year veteran of the private equity industry and was a general partner at Apax Partners in New York for 15 years and at Golder Thoma Cressey in Chicago for 7 years before joining NJTC Venture Fund to direct the Roseland, NJ office. Robert has made numerous successful investments spanning the security, telecom, information services, and healthcare industries. Robert is past president of the NY Venture Association and holds degrees from Northwestern University and Columbia University. He sits on the Boards of Directors at CML Emergency Services, Comdisco/Windspeed Ventures, Cylex, Redpoint Bio, Cebatech, RightAnswers, Game Trust, Achieve3000, and World Links, and is an observer on the Board of Valera Pharmaceuticals.

Abe Yokell , Senior Associate, Rockport Capital Partners

Abe Yokell , Senior Associate, Rockport Capital Partners

Abe Yokell is a Senior Associate at RockPort Capital Partners. Mr. Yokell rejoined the RockPort team in February 2004 after a summer internship and has helped to establish RockPort’s Menlo Park office, where he is based. He is actively engaged in all aspects of RockPort’s diligence process including research, financial and technical analysis, intellectual property evaluation, and structuring. Mr. Yokell is also a member of the Screening Committee and assists in portfolio company monitoring activities which include work with ISE Corporation, Hycrete, Inc., and HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc., among others.

Prior to joining RockPort, Mr. Yokell worked as an Analyst at Analysis Group, Inc., an economic and management consultancy where his activities included designing and implementing transfer pricing and valuation analyses used for corporate planning purposes, regulatory compliance, and litigation support. Mr. Yokell was also a Business Development intern at a venture-backed biotechnology company working to commercialize advanced aptamer-based diagnostic arrays.

Mr. Yokell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied Economics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Will Coleman, Partner of Mohr Davidow Ventures

Will Coleman, Partner of Mohr Davidow Ventures

Will Coleman brings a background in energy-related technology, development, and policy to the MDV team. He focuses on cleantech investments. In addition to investing, Will supports MDV cleantech companies.

Prior to MDV Will worked in Washington, DC as the legislative director for the Renewable Energy Action Project, and as an independent consultant for private equity and project finance clients focusing on the energy sector. In 2004, Will was invited to sit on the California Energy Commission’s Biofuels Working Groups to formulate strategies for reducing California’s dependence on petroleum. Will has also worked for GE Wind in the commercial operations group, Xseed Capital, and on a variety of renewable energy deployment projects in China, India, and West Africa.

Will completed his MBA and an MS in Energy & Resources from University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley Will founded the Berkeley Energy & Resources Collaborative (BERC) and the new Center for Energy & Environmental Innovation (CEEI).

John H. Robison, Associate, NGEN Partners

John H. Robison, Associate, NGEN Partners

John H. Robison joined NGEN in 2007 as an Associate after gaining experience in the cleantech and internet sectors. Most recently he served as the Director of Corporate Development for ServiceMagic.com which was acquired by IAC/InterActiveCorp. From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Robison worked in business development for Yahoo! Finance and from 2000 to 2001 he was an Associate in investment banking with SoundView Technology Group.

Mr. Robison began working in the cleantech sector in the early nineties. >From 1996 to 1999, he was a Director with Radiance Services, a startup company commercializing a laser-based cleaning process that reduces the use of water and hazardous solvents in technology manufacturing. Prior to joining Radiance, Mr. Robison managed a pollution prevention technology transfer program in the Silicon Valley. From 1993 to1995, Mr. Robison worked in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pollution Prevention Division where he worked on initiatives focused on the Electronics & Computers, Financial and Accounting sectors. While with the EPA he helped initiate funding for the Environmental Capital Network.

Mr. Robison graduated from Columbia Business School in 2000 with an M.B.A. and from Brown University in 1992 with a B.A. in Economics. He is a board observer at Venture Vehicles.
